The Media & Entertainment Group, in collaboration with the ESSEC Alumni Cinéma Club, is pleased to invite you to a great evening in the presence of an exceptional guest: Mr Claude Lelouch on the theme :

A lifetime of cinema: From his masterpieces to his latest book, a story to share

A privileged moment to revisit the work and vision of a master of cinema.
This evening will be an opportunity to revisit Claude Lelouch's iconic films, explore his vision of the 7ᵉ art and discuss with him his latest book " Le cinéma, c'est mieux que la vie ".
Alongside him, we'll have the pleasure of welcoming Yves Alion (E75), journalist, critic and film historian, who co-wrote this book with him. Together, they will look back on this collaboration and share their thoughts on the role of cinema in our lives.
The evening will conclude with a discussion and signing session with the authors.

SPEAKERS :

  • Claude Lelouch - Director, screenwriter and producer

    A legendary director, Claude Lelouch has marked generations with unforgettable films such as Un homme et une femme (Palme d'or at Cannes in 1966), Itinéraire d'un enfant gâté, Les Uns et les Autres, Tout ça... pour ça, Les Misérables, as well as many other masterpieces that have shaped his unique style. His cinema, renowned for its spontaneity, narrative freedom and directing flair, has influenced the history of the 7ᵉ art.
    His latest film, Finalement (2024), continues this unique exploration of human destiny and emotion through interwoven narratives, true to his cinematic signature. Over the course of his career, Claude Lelouch has collaborated with some of the greatest names in French cinema, including Jean-Louis Trintignant, Anouk Aimée, Lino Ventura, Jacques Brel, Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Gérard Lanvin, Patrick Chesnais, Vincent Lindon, Annie Girardot, Fabrice Luchini, Alessandra Martines, Pierre Arditi, Kad Merad, Elsa Zylberstein, Michel Boujenah, Sandrine Bonnaire, Jean Dujardin and many more.
    At this meeting, Claude Lelouch will look back on his exceptional career, his love of cinema, and share his thoughts on what makes the strength and emotion of the 7ᵉ art. He will also present his latest book, Le cinéma, c'est mieux que la vie, an introspective work in which he takes a personal look at his career, his inspirations and the lessons he has learned from a life dedicated entirely to cinema.

  • Yves Alion (E75) - Journalist, critic and film historian
    For over twelve years, Yves Alion hosted the Un certain regard and Cinéma de toujourssections at the Cannes Film Festival, and is a former programmer for the Paris Film Festival. Today, he is a leading figure in film criticism. Since 2000, he has been publication director and editor-in-chief of L'Avant-scène Cinéma, a benchmark for cinephiles and industry professionals alike.
    Host of Les Jeudis de l'ESRA, a lecture series at the renowned school dedicated to the 7ᵉ art, Yves Alion is also the author of numerous influential books on cinema, including Les Marx Brothers (Edilig), Brigitte Bardot (J'ai Lu), and Claude Lelouch, mode d'emploi (Calmann-Lévy), produced in collaboration with Jean Ollé-Laprune. He has also co-written and coordinated 250 cinéastes européens d'aujourd'hui (Europictures).
    At this event, he will join Claude Lelouch to talk about their collaboration on " Le cinéma, c'est mieux que la vie ", which he co-authored. He will highlight the importance of this work in understanding the filmmaker's unique view of his art, and share his experience as a critic, editor and privileged observer of the 7ᵉ art.
